It explores how refrigeration, freezing, and cryopreservation have shaped <em>cryogenic cultures<\/em> across food supply, biomedicine, climate control, and computing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project combines historical, geographical, linguistic, and ethnographic perspectives to develop a <strong>philosophical analysis of cryogenic cultures<\/strong> across conceptual, normative, and cultural dimensions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The research consortium includes TU Darmstadt, the University of Paderborn, the University of Duisburg-Essen, and the Australian National University, alongside partner institutions in Hamburg, Halle-Wittenberg, and Frankfurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Responsibilities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Successful applicants will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Conduct <strong>philosophical research<\/strong> in one of the thematic areas:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Conceptual history<\/strong>: Examining cultural concepts linked to preservation and vitality.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Normativity<\/strong>: Addressing ethical, ecological, and biopolitical issues of global cold chains and cryobanks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Philosophy of technology<\/strong>: Analyzing how cooling technologies shape cryogenic cultures and social life.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Present and publish findings through conferences, journal articles, and book chapters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Actively participate in project events, workshops, excursions, and research trips abroad.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contribute intellectually to ongoing discussions at the Institute.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This position also includes the opportunity to pursue a <strong>PhD thesis in philosophy<\/strong>, closely tied to the project\u2019s themes. Independent research proposals relevant to the topic are also welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Candidate Profile<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants should meet the following requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A <strong>Master\u2019s degree (or equivalent) in Philosophy<\/strong> or a related field with substantial philosophy coursework.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Research interests in areas such as <strong>Philosophy of Technology, Ethics of Technology, Science and Technology Studies, Cultural Studies, Conceptual History, or Discourse Analysis<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Excellent English language skills (C1)<\/strong>; German is desirable or willingness to acquire it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strong collaboration skills and readiness to travel for project-related activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Application Details<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The position is funded at <strong>65% working time<\/strong>, with doctoral dissertation research conducted alongside project responsibilities.
