This event seeks to critically examine how data circulates, transforms, and shapes societies, while opening new conceptual and methodological directions in the study of data flows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rethinking Data as Migration and Mobility<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Data is often described through metaphors such as <em>flows, streams, or journeys<\/em>. These framings highlight its circulation but reveal little about the <strong>social mechanisms of movement, replication, and transformation<\/strong>. Recent scholarship has introduced the concepts of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Data Migration<\/strong> \u2013 examining data through analogies with human mobility and social transformation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Data Mobilities<\/strong> \u2013 focusing on replication, proliferation, and transformation within data sharing processes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Together, these perspectives form a new research agenda that explores the <strong>paradoxes of data movement<\/strong>: How can data be described as frictionless yet encounter restrictions? When does data sharing empower communities, and when does it deepen inequalities? How do these processes intersect with <strong>governance, geopolitics, and data capitalism<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Themes and Topics<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop invites contributions from across disciplines to engage with these critical questions.
