🌍 About the Position

The University of Westminster’s School of Media and Communication is inviting applications for a Research Fellow to join a prestigious CHANSE/AHRC-funded project titled “The Crisis of Migration Discourse: Towards a Participatory New Lexicon of Migration” (CMD). This part-time, fixed-term post is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to meaningful, cross-border research focused on reshaping narratives around migration.


📍 Location & Duration

  • Campus: Harrow, London (with hybrid work options)
  • Hours: 26 hours per week
  • Term: Fixed until 2027
  • Salary: £47,073–£52,137 pro rata (actual £35,304–£39,102 p.a., incl. LWA)

🔎 Project Overview

CMD examines how migration is constructed as a crisis, focusing on individuals using unauthorized routes into the EU and UK. Rather than passive subjects, these “illegalised” migrants are positioned as agents of change, working alongside researchers to redefine dominant narratives and influence practices and policies through participatory engagement.

This interdisciplinary research spans five European nations—Italy, France, Denmark, Spain, and the UK—and involves the creation of educational resources, including a toolkit for action and a training program to build intercultural competence.
