About the Programme
The Centre of Migration Research at the University of Warsaw has announced a competition for the position of Post-Doctoral Researcher within the Centre of Excellence in Social Science. This role is linked to the ERC-funded project titled “Incentivizing Citizen Exposure to Quality News Online: Framework and Tools” (NEWSUSE).
The project is funded by the European Research Council Executive Agency (ERC Consolidator Grant) and will run from December 1, 2024, to November 30, 2029, under the leadership of Dr. Magdalena Wojcieszak.
Project Overview
In today’s world, rising populism, political polarization, and the decline of democratic norms pose significant challenges across the European Union. The NEWSUSE project addresses one crucial but often overlooked issue: the very low news consumption among citizens.
Rather than focusing solely on misinformation or filter bubbles, the project emphasizes how limited news exposure leaves individuals susceptible to manipulative rhetoric, populist narratives, and misaligned voting behaviors. By examining individual, algorithmic, and social factors that contribute to underuse of quality news, NEWSUSE seeks to design computational tools and innovative approaches to encourage sustainable news engagement across platforms.
The project applies cutting-edge multidisciplinary research methods, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches, experimental studies, and advances in computational social science to deliver impactful insights.
