About the Opportunity

This new position is part of the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1567 “Virtuosic Collaboration”, which examines the practices and dynamics of collaboration in digital societies.
The appointed PhD candidate will be closely involved in research project A04: “Collaborating on Public Controversies: Practices and Problems of Co-Creation in Social Media Spaces.” This involves analyzing how users co-create and negotiate knowledge and meaning in digital public spaces, especially through platforms such as YouTube, Twitter/X, and Instagram.

The successful candidate will:
- Conduct empirical research on digital co-creation and collaboration
- Analyze public debates and controversies using digital tools
- Collaborate with a cross-disciplinary team of experts
- Contribute to high-quality publications and conferences
🎓 What They’re Looking For
Ideal candidates will:
- Hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in media studies, communication, sociology, or related disciplines
- Be experienced in qualitative and/or digital media research methods
- Demonstrate strong interest in social media, public discourse, and collaboration studies
- Be proficient in English (German skills are a plus but not required)
