🌍 About the Conference

The Planetary Screens Conference invites scholars, researchers, and creative practitioners to explore the role of film and screen media in articulating ecological discourses and sustainable modes of existence. In an era marked by environmental crises, the conference seeks to examine how screen media can foster an “ethics of co-habitation” between human and non-human entities, moving beyond traditional frameworks to address planetary challenges.

📚 Suggested Topics

Submissions may address, but are not limited to:

  • The role of the planetary in film and screen media concerning current environmental contexts
  • Articulations of the planetary in relation to global, transnational, national, and world perspectives
  • Representations of human and non-human co-habitation
  • Intersectional approaches to planetary thinking and ecocriticism (race, gender, class, etc.)
  • Decolonial and post-colonial ecological imaginations
  • Depictions of the Anthropocene, Capitalocene, and Chthulucene
  • Eco-aesthetics and narratives in screen media
  • Environmental justice and activism through film
  • Indigenous cosmologies and environmental perspectives
  • The material impact of screen media on planetary sustainability

📝 Submission Guidelines

  • Format: Individual papers (20 minutes), practice-based research presentations/screenings, or pre-constituted panel proposals
  • Abstract Length: 200–250 words
  • Additional Materials: Title, short bio (up to 100 words), and bibliography
