Fully Funded PhD Studentship in King’s College, London

King’s College London, in collaboration with the British Film Institute (BFI) opened applications for a fully funded doctoral studentship under the AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Partnerships (CDP) scheme. This exciting opportunity is designed for researchers interested in the intersection of artificial intelligence, screen culture, and public values.


🔍 Research Topic

Title: From Narratives of Value to Valuable Algorithms: A Decade of Promotional Screen Culture in the UK Seen by Machine

This project seeks into the evolution of televised advertising in the UK, analyzing how social and economic values have been encoded in commercials since 2016. A key aspect of the research involves using computational methods to analyze a vast collection of broadcast data, providing insights into how machine vision interprets visual narratives of value.

The successful applicant will work with experts from King’s College London’s Department of Digital Humanities and the BFI’s Screen Archive team, making it a truly interdisciplinary project.
