Empowering Minority Languages through Technology and Journalism
The I International Congress on Communication, Technology, and Minority Languages invites scholars, media professionals, and creators to contribute original work on how AI and emerging technologies are shaping the creation and dissemination of journalistic and audiovisual content in minority languages.
This pioneering event is organized by the POLCOM-GRP (Political Communication, Journalism, and Democracy Research Group) from the Department of Communication at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, in collaboration with the Consell General d’Aran, HÈPIC, MITECO, and the UNESCO Chair in Linguistic Policies for Multilingualism.
The congress will be held from November 27–28, 2025, in Val d’Aran, a region known for its rich linguistic diversity and commitment to preserving Aranese and other minority languages.
Topics and Themes for Submission
Researchers, journalists, technologists, and language advocates are encouraged to submit abstracts on topics such as:
- AI and new technologies in creating audiovisual content in minority languages
- Viability and sustainability of journalistic formats in minority languages
- Social networks and viral content production in non-majority languages
The congress also welcomes creative formats, including audio, video, multimedia projects, and interactive storytelling that highlight the role of technology in linguistic preservation and innovation.
Submission Guidelines
- Abstract Length: Maximum 500 words
- Content: Title, authors and affiliations, abstract, and a brief biography (max. 100 words per author)
- Languages Accepted: Aranese and Occitan, Aragonese, Asturian-Leonese, Catalan, Spanish, French, English, and other minority languages
- Formats: Oral academic presentations or creative, multimedia proposals
